The best dog friendly beach walks along the East Yorkshire Coast

So you're here to find the best Dog Friendly Beach Walks

We’ve lived on the east coast for 10+ years and had a four legged member of the family (and usually multiple) the entire time. The beach is the place for the dogs to let it all go and run wild; we’ve chosen three of our favourite beaches to share with you where your pups can do just that! Remember to check the tide times before you go as this determines how much beach you get!!

Check the local tide times here

What to expect when you are there:

A steep walk down takes you to the vast expanse of beach with high cliffs all round. Great for keeping the dogs contained and away from roads. Most of the beach is soft sand with patches of pebbles. The beach can get busy on really sunny days in the summer holidays but in general considered a quiet beach.

What makes this spot a great Dog Friendly Beach Walk:

Firstly, you might get so see dolphins as there have been regular viewings! As it is a bay, when the tide is in and the wind is low, it can create a great opportunity to try out some paddle boarding. This is a perfect spot for a special sunrise walk.

What to expect when you are there:

A shorter but still steep walk down to the beach compared to Cayton. Get the tide right and you have miles of beach to explore!

What makes this spot a great Dog Friendly Beach Walk:

A perfect spot for a doggy meet up if that’s your thing! With so much space it can cater for multiple dog get togethers with friends. Same as with Cayton, you might catch a dolphin but more likely a spectacular sunrise all year round.

Location: Hayburn Wyke in between Scarborough and Whitby

Parking: Car park available at the Hayburn Wyke Pub, (car park ticket redeemable against food bill)

Toilets: No, unless you stop at the pub for refreshments!

Food/Cafe:
The Hayburn Wyke pub is the end and start of the walk. Proper pub food with lots of outdoor space and rustic English pub vibes inside. The pub is also Dog friendly.

Dog friendly: Yes! It's ready for dog friendly beach walks all year round!

What to expect when you are there:

Firstly, this requires a 20 minute walk through the woods to get to the rocky beach. No sand here! You can make the route circular and the short paths are signposted. There’s a river than runs through the forest and into the sea, so plenty of fresh water for them to drink on hot days.

What makes this spot a great Dog Friendly Beach Walk:

There is a wonderful little waterfall from the river onto the pebble beach! For you doggy photography enthusiasts, this is the spot you want to be at. You might catch a sighting of a seal or two but they usually hang out further up the coast!

When you go on your dog friendly beach walk; ensure that it is fully safe for your dog by checking tide times and the surrounding area when you first arrive. Don't forget to take your camera and capture some amazing beachy memories too!
