Overview
Built for dogs led by instinct.
The SteadFast™ Anti-Escape Martingale Dog Collar is designed to help prevent dogs slipping free when instinct kicks in. Unlike a standard flat collar, the martingale design responds naturally to your dog's movement, tightening just enough to provide secure, comfortable control on the lead without excessive pressure.
Designed for everyday walks, the slim, low-profile construction combines comfort, safety and confidence. It stays secure while walking and remains lightweight and comfortable enough to wear between adventures.
Ideal for dogs that are prone to backing out of traditional collars, including rescue dogs, sighthounds and breeds with narrower heads.

How a Martingale Works
A Martingale collar uses two loops: the main loop and the control loop.
When your dog pulls, the control loop gently closes, distributing any pressure evenly, stopping your dog slipping free. Allowing you to focus on what matters most.
Unlike slip leads and standard dog collars, the pressure from a Martingale Collar is distributed evenly around the neck, creating a kinder form of control that helps reduce tension and improves handling confidence.
Care Instructions
Wipe clean with a damp cloth, or machine wash on a cool, gentle cycle inside a pillowcase.
Allow to air dry. Do not tumble dry.
Please note, collars may feel slightly stiff at first but will soften after a few uses.
Is a Steadfast™ Martingale right for my dog?
Every dog is different, but instinct is something they all share. Whether it's chasing wildlife, backing away when startled, or pulling towards something exciting, those split-second reactions can put dogs at risk of slipping or breaking through a standard collar or harness.
The SteadFast™ Anti-Escape Martingale Collar is designed to help dogs that are prone to backing out of traditional collars by responding naturally to their movement. As gentle pressure is applied by the lead, the control loop tightens just enough to help keep the collar securely fitted, with any pressure dispersed evenly, comfortable while giving you more confidence on every walk.
A SteadFast™ is particularly well suited to:
- Dogs that have slipped or nearly slipped a standard collar or harness
- Rescue dogs that are still navigating their new life.
- Dogs that are nervous or easily startled
- Sighthounds, including Greyhounds, Whippets and Lurchers
- Dogs with narrower heads or necks
- Dogs with a strong prey drive or instinct to chase
- Owners wanting a kinder alternative to a full slip lead/collar
- Overexcited dogs who need to say hello to everyone
- Owners looking for more confidence on walks

How to use your Martingale Collar
Fitting it right is crucial to ensure your Martingale works as an anti-escape collar.
A martingale collar is made from 2 loops, the main loop and a control loop. They’re ideal for sighthounds and/or escape artists and can be a great tool to help with walking and lead training.
To measure your dog for a martingale collar start by measuring the largest part of their head, this is usually just above or behind their ears. We do this to ensure that the collar will fit over their head as this style does not come with a buckle.
Then take a second measurement, this is where you would like them to wear the collar. The collars are adjustable, but we suggest sizing up if your measurements are towards the maximum adjustment size.
Make sure the collar adjusts wide enough too easily get over your dog’s head both to put on and take off, whilst also sits comfortably when worn.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you ever needed to know about the Martingale
What is an Anti-Escape Martingale?
A martingale is a design of dog collar that has been used for over 200 years. The term martingale refers to the function of the “limited-slip” part of the collar. It consists of two loops. One loop evenly disperses tension around the dog’s neck, ensuring the collar can’t be backed out of, which would result in an escape. The collar can also be used instead of a full slip lead or collar, making it kinder on a dog’s neck if fitted correctly. The martingale is widely used in the sighthound community and in rescues, purely because its design meets the needs of the skittish nature of those kinds of dogs. The collar, however, can work on any breed for confidence, control, or both.
How does a Martingale stop my dog from escaping?
A martingale consists of two loops: a head loop and a control loop. The control loop is there to keep control of your dog, whether it is trying to back out or lunge forward. The control loop will tighten to evenly disperse tension around the dog’s neck, ensuring the collar stays snug around all points of the neck, preventing an escape.
Would my dog breed need to use a Martingale?
A martingale design collar can be used on any dog that may be deemed an escape artist or when using a slip lead or collar. The martingale evenly disperses tension around the dog’s neck, keeping it snug so the dog cannot escape. It also features a wide design so it does not dig in or harm the dog. If your dog pulls, a martingale is also less damaging to the trachea than a flat collar.
Are Martingale dog collars cruel?
Martingale collars are not cruel if used as intended, which is to prevent escape. They are also a kinder and safer alternative to a flat collar, full slip collar, or slip lead. They can be worn with a harness as an emergency-only collar in case the harness fails. The collar has no buckle closure, making it one of the safest options when walking your dog.
What size Martingale do I need?
To ensure the perfect fit of your martingale, please refer to our size guide (LINK) and have both head and neck measurements ready, as the martingale does not have a buckle or closure and will need to fit over the head. The parts to measure are the top to middle of the dog’s neck and just on the ear cartilage of the dog’s head, where it would get stuck if it were too small.
What measurements to I need to take to get the right size collar?
The parts to measure are the top to middle of the dog’s neck and just on the ear cartilage of the dog’s head, where it would get stuck if it were too small. This is because the martingale has no buckle or closure and needs to be placed over the head, then tightened to fit.

Will a Martingale Collar stop my dog from pulling?
A martingale will not stop your dog from pulling; however, it works in a similar way to a full slip lead or collar in that it has a tightening design. Some users choose a martingale to keep easier control of their dog as an alternative to a full slip lead or collar. The martingale, however, is kinder to the neck than a slip lead, as the tension is dispersed and does not choke the dog, unlike other leads and collars.
Can I use my Martingale Collar with a harness?
Yes, you can. Many customers use their martingales paired with a harness, using a connector or a double-ended lead to ensure safety should the dog lunge and break or back out of the harness. As an emergency only use collar. Giving confidence and safety whilst out and about with your dog.
